Thoracic Surgery
The evaluation of chest disease is carried out initially as an outpatient. It may include chest x-ray, CT Scan of the chest, MRI of the chest and Bronchosopy. Bronchosopy is an endoscopic test performed under sedation where the tracheobronchial tree (windpipes) are examined and biopsied. Commonly performed chest surgery includes insertion of tubes for drainage of fluid, blood or air; removal of all or part of the lung for cancer. Sometimes an operation is performed in the chest for removing lymph nodes to detect the spread of cancer.
